Hygge is a Danish word for making the ordinary, every day moments more special – so grab your Jo Malone candle, and get ready for some serious hygge-ing this Christmas.
Hygge is pretty hard to explain. It’s sort of like love – you totes know when you’re experiencing it, but still can’t fully understand it. Got it?
Imagine this: you stumble through the door with the squad after a night out on the town, with a KFC in hand (obvs), LOL’ing at memes on Facebook, switch on your favourite episode of Friends, and get snuggled up on the sofa. That is hygge, hun.
‘It’s a special atmosphere of a special moment.’ Explains Marie Tourell Søderberg, a Danish actress whose book Hygge went on sale this autumn. ‘It’s where everything just falls into place. Where the company is right, where the temperature is right, where we feel comforted, safe, warm and happy.’
So in an effort to help you find hygge this Christmas – and for the New Year – here are some Instagram photos posted by Urban Outfitters that perfectly sum up hygge…
